Estimating the IQ of Richard Spencer
I could understand not liking Richard Spencer for being egoistic or contrarian, but the critique of him that has confused me the most is that he is unintelligent.
I was listening to the RADIX podcast and he claimed he was dyslexic, but scored in the 98th percentile on either the GREQ or the GREV (don’t remember which). The 98th percentile score on the GRE translates to roughly 2.36 within the whole nation. Given he attended Duke’s graduate program, this score is more than believable.
Assuming a correlation of 0.78 between the GRE subtest and IQ, Richard Spencer has an IQ of roughly 128 with a standard error of 9.4
g <- rnorm(60000000, mean=0)
iq <- 0.78*g + rnorm(60000000)*sqrt(1-0.78^2)
subby1 <- data.frame(iq, g)
subby1$g = g
subby2 <- subset(subby1, (subby1$iq < 2.4) & (subby1$iq > 2.32))
mean(subby2$g)*15
sd(subby2$g)*15
